It becomes clear that in those few seconds, a driver's attention is completely diverted from the primary task at hand—operating a vehicle safely.

The consequences of this distraction can be catastrophic. Within those 100 yards, numerous variables come into play. Pedestrians may cross the road, vehicles may change lanes, and traffic conditions can shift unexpectedly. Failing to observe and respond to these situations due to texting dramatically increases the risk of accidents, injuries, and loss of life.
